New Apple Releases
iPads
iPad Pro
The last time Apple updated the iPad Pro line was in 2021. They added an M1 processor for the first time to the whole range and Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED technology to the 12.9-inch model. 2022 iPad Pro has M2 chip and supports ProRes video recording. The other technical characteristics are pretty the same.
With M2 chip, the iPad Pro now comes with either a 8-core GPU (which is about 15 percent faster than the previous M1 generation), or a 10-core GPU (with up to 35 percent better graphics performance, according to Apple). Which makes it a much faster iPad Pro in many aspects.
The major iPad redesign was in 2018 when it was the first iPad to have Face ID and a full-screen thanks to smaller bezels and the removal of the Home button. This time there are no significant design changes and the dimensions and weight is exactly the same as before.
Colour options are also the same: Silver and Space Gray. If you wish something more colourful, take a look at the iPad, iPad Air and iPad mini 2022 lines.
iPad
Without Home button iPads now have larger screens. The new iPad is 5 mm wider, 2 mm shorter and a little bit thinner. It’s also lighter than last year’s model, too (1.06 pounds vs 1.09 pounds). The screen is now 10.9 inches big, same as of the iPad Air.
Design changes can be not noticeable from the first sign, but the Home button was definitely adding some age. Now every iPad looks chic and up to modern tendencies.
Rear camera has been upgraded as well. From 8 to 12 Megapixels it now matches the front camera. It also has larger aperture (f/1.8 vs f/2.4 from the previous generation), 4K video recording, and it now supports Smart HDR v3, while the previous model had no support for Smart HDR at all.
iPad Air
The iPad Air was never considered the best in the line. But 2022 updates gave it some points and made it desirable for customers. This upgrade adds a Pro-level M1 processor, 5G support and a much-improved front-facing camera.
Some external changes were made too: Apple has slightly improved the colour finishes, silver was replaced by the yellow-tinged Starlight, sky blue by a darker blue, and green by purple.
Some refurbished iPads can be found on Tech Trade.
iPhone
iPhone 14 and 14 Plus
The design hasn’t changed much from the 2021 model and the chip is only slightly improved — it still uses an A15 Bionic but has an extra GPU core like the iPhone 13 Pro from last year. The iPhone 14 Plus also has a better battery, now it can work for up to 19 hours, which Apple said is the best battery life ever offered in an iPhone.
The most significant changes are with the camera. The setup is the same — iPhone 14 still has a dual-camera with 12MP wide and ultra-wide lenses — the main camera has a faster aperture and larger sensor. It also delivers a 49 percent improvement in low-light images as well by using a new Photonic Engine that delivers more detail and colour than the previous Deep Fusion system.
Along with the camera, the major improvement is phone safety. Like the Apple Watch Series 8, the iPhone 14 has Crash Detection thanks to a new high-dynamic range gyroscope and advanced accelerometer.
The height is 6.1-inch for iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch for iPhone 14 Plus.
iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
First improvement which can be seen is the camera. The main iPhone 14 Pro camera has four times the megapixels as any previous iPhone camera.
Second change is called Dynamic Island. It’s the new notch and it can adjust its shape based on what’s on-screen and what it needs to do. It doesn't just accommodate the camera and sensors, but it's also like a dymanic shape-shifting pool for iPhone and apps notifications. For example, it will display album cover and a live music waveform while playing music in background mode.
What about iPhone 14 Pro Max? One of the reasons why you might want such a big phone is not only its screen size. It's also the biggest battery capacity so far in the iPhone family. The iPhone 14 Pro Max lasts 3 hours and 43 minutes longer than the iPhone 14 Pro — that’s 30% longer battery life!
iPhone SE (3rd generation)
What can be said about the cheapest iPhone in line? It’s a great choice if you need its performance first of all. It has a fast new A15 processor which gives you all you might want from a good phone. Speaking of other features, the display is outdated, it has huge bezels, the cameras are also not so great. Basically you get a new processor in a slightly outdated case. The price at the same time is very pleasant.
So, we remembered every new release Apple made in the iPad and iPhone lines in 2022. What else was new on the market?
