The Future looks sharp – Apple iMac Retina 5K
Apple released the latest line of iMac late 2014, beginning with the 27-inch, it became the new flagship of the iMac, replacing the previous generation.
Retina display.
The main feature that was introduced with the new iMac was the Retina display. It has 5120x2880 resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Which makes a massive improvement over the previous LED and LCD displays and creates pinpoint accurate images which is perfect for images and video. Incorporated into the Retina display is the newly adopted DCI-P3 colour coverage which adds 20% over the previous standard for computer monitors, the Adobe sRGB.
Hardware upgrades.
Not only did the display get a major revamp, the hardware has been upgraded too. A new faster Haswell Processor was installed. The standard storage was increased to a 1 TB Fusion HDD and the video options were changed over to AMD Radeon R9 M290X. This model comes with a 3.3Ghz Intel Core i5 and 8GB of RAM.
The connectivity has been improved too. The two Thunderbolt ports have been upgraded to house 4 USB, an SDXC card slot and an Ethernet cable. Thunderbolt 2 ports which offer support for up to two 4,096 x 2,160 external displays, or a single 5,120 x 2,880 dual-cable external display which can be used in conjunction with the iMac's built-in display.
